The Romance
Moon Seung Wook, director of such films as Taekwondo (1997) and Butterfly (2001), helms this intense romantic drama about a gorgeous married woman who is abused by her politically connected husband only to later find herself catching the attention of a police detective. Kim Ji Soo (from The Big Scene and This Charming Girl) stars as Yoon Hee, a woman suffocated by her husband's obsessive, physically abusive behavior. One fateful day, she decides to end her life, but her suicide attempt is interrupted when a man steps in to save her. This Good Samaritan turns out to be a detective named Hyung Jun (Jo Jae Hyun, from Sword in the Moon, Bad Guy, and The Isle), a hard-boiled cop who lives his life by his own code of honor. Grateful for his heroic intervention, Yoon Hee seeks out Hyung Jun, soon realizing that he's already developed a deep attachment for her. But once she comprehends the impossibility of ending her strained marriage, the serenity she finds with her savior turns bittersweet, if not outright heartbreaking for Yoon Hee. And for Hyung Jun, a man who's grown accustomed to a solitary, often lonely existence, it's love at first sight, as the gorgeous Yoon Hee is like a breath of fresh air in his previously stale life. But with both Yoon Hee's and Hyung Jun's hands tied in the matter, albeit in different ways, can there be a "happily ever after" ending for this unlikely couple?
