The Wind in the Willows: In the the scorching July heat, Badger, Rat, Mole and Toad have undertaken a long journey on foot to spy on the railway company's activities. Toad's inability to keep up with his friends makes them remark on his poor physical condition, so he orders a supply of athletic and gymnastic equipment to prove them wrong. After being battered by his punchbag and failing to even unwrap his dumbells, he challenges Rat to a game with his medicine ball. When Rat throws it to Toad, however, Toad knocks over a cabinet and a stack of letters is revealed. They indicate that Toad has the right, as Lord of the Manor, to object to the building of the railway across his land. Unfortunately, Toad has been too engrossed in his own pursuits to bother about objecting, and the period set aside for doing so has long since passed. Could this mean the end of the River Bank and the Wild Wood?
